Now a little history: I bought the jeep two years before my wife and I bought the new house. We wheeled it for the first year until I put tires on it and found out how bad the ball joints really were. In that time the only mods done to it were a 3" body lift to clear some used Thornbirds to replace the 27s on it. Also the one piece axles were installed because my buddy was driving it back from getting something at the gas station and one of the rear axles decided it didn't like being in the housing anymore. Also the winch was installed. After getting the new Generals on it the vehicle sat in the yard at old house for a year. I moved to my new house and it sat in the back yard next to the boat for two years. Last year I finally got around to moving it into the garage to start working on it. In that time I have rebuilt the trans and upgraded the internal components. Replaced all bearings and "small parts" in transfer case. I have replaced all hard brake lines with stainless units. Replaced flexible brake lines with braided stainless units. Replaced all braking components period. Rebuilt the entire front end. The hubs are the heavy duty Superwinch models. I removed the body lift and put in the 4" springs in July of 2002 and replaced the wiring harness and installed the dual battery isolator. Both are painless wiring parts. I installed the Tuffy overhead about the same time. I replaced the speedo cluster while I was rebuilding the mechanical parts. Since then I have added a Tuffy center console, Hurst short throw shifter, fixed the heater and added a hard top and full steel doors. |
